‘Tis the season for preseason award watch lists, and Jake has made two of the most prestigious lists
for quarterbacks. Jake has been named as a possible future recipient for the Johnny Unitas “Golden Arm Award“, an honor given to the nation’s best quarterback. In order to be considered for the trophy the player must not only have a great year on the field but must also ‘demonstrate good citizenship off the field and maintain the ideals of good character, morals, and values that Johnny Unitas upheld in his lifetime and career.’
And, recently released, the Davey O’Brien Foundation announced that Jake has also made their watch list for the 2010 season, the second consecutive season he has been named to the list. The Davey O’Brien award goes to the quarterback who displays the best balance of on and off the field performance.
Both award winners will be announced shortly after the completion of the 2010 regular college football season.

Jake signed a contract with the Anaheim Angels today, providing him future career options and giving the Angels the rights to him should he decide to pursue a professional baseball career in the next 6 years.
Details of the contract have not been revealed, but the agreement means that Jake will relinquish his scholarship as part of the deal and pay his way through the rest of school. Jake plans on continuing to play football for the Huskies and will focus on his role as quarterback.
While there may be large portion of Husky nation who worry about Jake’s future plans, both he and his dad, Scott Locker, have insisted that signing a deal would be a good alternative should NFL aspirations not work as planned, and that his primary goal is to finish out the final 2 years of his college football experience.
Jake was drafted in the 10th round by the Angels in this year’s MLB draft. The Angels, who also drafted Jake in the 40th round after his senior year in highschoo, have continued to reiterate they would be flexible with his college football plans. And, Scott confirmed today that the deal leaves options open for Jake, which has always been the sticking point in the negotiations with the Angels.
Congrats to Jake and kudos to Scott for what must have been a lot of work to get a deal done.
Go Dawgs!
